Friends of the Annapolis Pool Society (FAPS) are launching a new fundraiser. We are asking for you help in this matter.
We are excited to announce the ‘Think Recycle’ program. This is a community based collection program, where we collect used printer cartridges and cell phones. We package them up, and send them off to “Greentec” who in turn provide funds for these items.
HOW CAN YOU HELP?
By dropping off your used cell phones and print cartridges at Good
Beginnings Daycare Centre (9 Grange Street, Annapolis Royal, 532-7736)
HOW DOES THIS HELP OUR ENVIRONMENT?
Annually, over 300 million print cartridges are consumed in North
America, and more than 500 million cell phones get retired. That is
MILLIONS of pounds of electronic waste that often end up in landfill
sites. The ‘Think Recycle ’ program helps to divert these items from the
landfills by recycling them.
Cell phones are first ‘flashed’ (their data erased), then they are
graded and sold to companies that refurbish them. The scrap cell
phones are then shredded and sent to a secondary recycler who reclaims
the precious metals.
On top of this ‘Think Recycle’ sponsors the planting of one tree for
every 12 items we send to them. To date they have been responsible for
planting over 31,000 trees…removing 5400 tones of carbon from the
atmosphere.
We thank you for your help and support…if you have any questions please call us at 532-7736 or 532-0001.
